Why We Built RemoveBG.AI
For years, the online image editing space has been dominated by legacy cloud-based services. While impressive in their day, these platforms introduced severe compromises: users were forced to upload their confidential portraits, family memories, and unreleased product prototypes to remote cloud servers in order to remove a simple background.
Furthermore, cloud servers incur massive GPU bills. To recoup these costs, platforms built aggressive paywalls, charged up to $2 per image credit, and artificially downgraded free downloads to tiny, unusable 250px previews.
We believed there was a better way. With the maturation of WebAssembly (WASM), ONNX Web Runtime, and local hardware acceleration via WebGPU, modern browsers possess more computational power than yesterday's data centers. We decided to bring the AI model directly to your device.
